Suspected scammer nabbed in uMdloti

The suspect was involved in soliciting deposits or transportation fees for selling large industrial equipment online.

AN ALLEGED fraudster was arrested in uMdloti recently following a joint operation between Durban North SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, Umdloti Smart Village and Marshall Security’s special operations team.

The individual was caught in the act in uMdloti while trying to defraud someone for a generator. His modus operandi was to sell items that he did not own on an online platform.

“His modus operandi involved soliciting deposits or transportation fees for large industrial equipment, such as forklifts and big generators, which he never actually possessed,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

The suspect was also connected to a fraud case in Bonnievale, Western Cape, where he had deceived a member of the public out of R64 400 in a bogus forklift sale.

He was taken into custody at Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing.

“To avoid falling victim to fraud, it’s crucial to conduct transactions only with legitimate, verified companies and exercise caution when dealing with individuals or entities online,” said Powell.
