Fresh and fabulous market

THE Macnut Farm in Lello Road, Assagay, hosts a Sunday Fresh Produce Market for locals to buy and sell home-grown produce in picture-perfect surroundings.

Paul Paine, the convenor, said the idea behind the market was to create an opportunity for visitors and locals to buy home-grown, farm and fresh produce from source.

There will be a Sunday lunch, drinks and a bar available.

The market will be open from 11:00 until 14:00, and there is no charge either to sell or to enter. Traders are also welcome. For more info, contact the farm on 031 765 2572.

There is on-site parking.

Musical theatre with musician

VETERAN musical theatre King, Joseph Clark, returns to Durban to perform the music that defined his career – The Music of Queen – coming to The Playhouse Opera Theatre for two shows only, on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18.

Having performed Queen’s music for over three decades, his show boasts an extensive song list, including hits like Somebody To LoveAnother One Bites The DustWe Will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody to name a few. Additionally, to the delight of many diehard Queen fans, Joseph will be joined by guitar virtuoso Axe Lourens.

Andre brings the hilarity

ANDRE the Hilarious Hypnotist returns with his signature brand of comedy and hypnosis providing two hours of side-splitting entertainment for young and old this month at the Rhumbelow Theatre (42 Cunningham Road, Durban).

The show is meant for all ages and features the people from your own neighbourhood as they are hypnotised into believing they are anything from a washing machine to Superman and a host of suggestions in between.

Tickets cost R180, and booking is essential. Bring food picnic baskets or buy at the venue. There is limited secure parking available, and no alcohol may be brought onto the premises.

Comedy, cabaret and frivolity

JOIN international cabaret artist Tonya Koenderman in her hilarious comedy cabaret, Growing Old Disgracefully, a light-hearted, frank look at the funny side of ageing.

All your favourite songs will be featured, with a wicked twist. The evergreen but, perhaps, dated These Are a Few of My Favourite Things has been rebooted to embrace more age-appropriate themes. All in all, you can look forward to a side-splitting night of entertainment and fun-filled frivolity. Sorry, in advance, for the new laugh lines.

Koenderman will perform at the Rhumbelow Theatre (42 Cunningham Road, Durban) on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, at 19.30 and 14:00 respectively.

Family-friendly hike

Durban Hiking and Adventures will be hosting two hiking options at the Everton Conservatory. Established in 1991, the conservancy is the oldest urban conservancy in South Africa. Located west of Durban and upstream of the important Krantzkloof Nature Reserve, it is an area of outstanding natural beauty renowned for the richness of its biodiversity.

Meet at 06:45 for 07:00 at the Everton Conservancy, Acutts Drive, Everton. There are two hike options: The first is a 3km Grade 1 hike which is suitable for families with small kids, as well. Option two is an 8–10km Grade 2 hike.

Tickets cost R129 per person (adults) and R69 per person (U13). This charge includes a donation towards the conservancy. Tickets are available via Quicket.

What to bring: Snacks, water or cold drinks and a backpack, and walking shoes/takkies with good grip are a must. No flat shoes are allowed.

Presentation at Botanic Gardens

THE Decorative Arts Society will host a presentation by Rob Fidler on ‘Music from the Cinema’ on some of the great music from the world of cinema on Tuesday, May 21, from 12:30 to 13:30. The presentation will be held at the Visitors’ Centre, Durban Botanic Gardens. The fee is R50 for members and R70 for visitors. Tea and sandwiches will be served after the lecture.
