DURBAN North cyclist S’annara Grove won her third successive Amashova National Classic title in the 106km elite women’s race recently.

This was the 40th edition of the Amashova which saw South Africa’s top cyclists take on the challenging route between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.

Grove, who is in Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games, will hope to continue that winning feeling in the track cycling category.

Reflecting on her victory, the 32-year-old explained she had to overcome illness and injury to make it over the finish line.

“It hasn’t been an ideal year for me either, with some bad luck, illness and injury. Coming into this race and pulling off the win in the way I did gives me a lot of confidence going forward. That’s what makes it pretty special to me.

“My goal on the start line is always to win. Sometimes it just feels more possible than others. I wasn’t 100% sure how my endurance would hold out. So the decision was to race a bit more conservatively right at the beginning,” she said.

After the Commonwealth Games, Grove will compete in the Women’s Tour of Britain 1.WWT before travelling to Canada for the UCI Cycling Road World Champs.

Grove will be in action for SA in track cycling from July 31 until August 2.
