DSG end SA20 campaign with win

An unbeaten 76 from Heinrich Klaasen and 3/25 from Noor Ahmad proved to be the difference as the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) system had to be used.

THERE was some reason to smile for Durban’s Super Giants as they beat the Joburg Super Kings by 11 runs in their final Betway SA20 season at the Wanderers on Saturday evening.

Heinrich Klaasen and Noor Ahmad, who’ve been two shining lights for the Durban franchise once again showed their mettle at the Bull Ring in a rain affected match.

An unbeaten 76 from Klaasen and 3/25 from Ahmad proved to be the difference as the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) system had to be used.

The Super Kings who won the toss, elected to field first, and that decision seemed to pay dividends when the Durban side were reduced to 39/3 in the sixth over.

However Klaasen and Wiaan Mulder put on 70 off 42 balls to take the Super Giants to 173 for four in their 20 overs.

In reply, the Super Kings lost wickets at regular intervals which stunted their momentum.

The players left the field of play for a rain delay after 3.4 overs.

The rain delay meant that the match was reduced to 16 overs and the revised target for the hosts was 147.

Noor Ahmad and Dwaine Pretorius proved to be the pick of the bowlers taking the Super Giants to only their second win of the campaign.

Despite the result the Super Giants occupy the foot of the Betway SA20 table.

Scoreboard summary
Durban’s Super Giants 173/4 (20 overs)
Joburg Super Kings 135/9 (16 overs)
Super Giants won by 11 runs (DLS method)
