Meeting to elect Ward committee members
Ward 87 councillor Amanda Forsythe writes:
I would like to invite residents to a public meeting to elect three new members to my ward committee.
The portfolios that need to be filled and the job descriptions are as follows:
Finance – Member responsible for following and advising on city council budget and billings issues, as well as all matters covered by the finance department of the city council.
Health and Social Development – Member will advise and co-ordinate activities related to health and social welfare with a particular focus on vagrancy and displaced people in the ward.
Infrastructure – Member will advise and follow-up on issues related to City Power, Joburg Water and Pikitup.
Candidates need to be South African citizens with a valid bar-coded identity book who live in Ward 87 which includes Parkview, Greenside, Melville, Westcliff, Forest Town or Parktown
West.
Although members are paid a stipend of R500 to cover costs, the position is one of service to the community and should not be considered as employment.
Members will be expected to attend monthly Ward Committee meetings, as well as the councillor’s monthly ‘Ten Plus’ meetings and other ad hoc meetings as the portfolio requires.
Candidates must be nominated by a resident in the Ward and seconded by another community member. Nomination forms can be obtained from my assistant via email lungiward87@mweb.co.za or 011-485-5315. Forms will also be available on the night of the election, which will take place on 14 August at Marks Park at 6pm.
