For the people involved in Cupcakes 4 Kids With Cancer, baking and decorating these sweet treats is a labour of love.

On 28 September, dubbed National Cupcake Day, the team was out in forty five malls in twenty three cities across South Africa with more than three thousand bakers and ten thousand cupcakes.

Founder of the charity, Sandy Cipriano, has worked hard to bring awareness and raise funds to help ensure a better quality of life for children living with the chronic illness.

She was on hand at Mugg and Bean, Cresta and explained the easy and fun way to raise donations.

“We want to help in all areas of life so we help out with medical bills, school fees, prosthesis fittings, food vouchers,” she said.

“We do hospital visits and cupcake workshops with the children there. Cupcakes 4 Kids is all about working together and bringing smiles to their faces.”

The charity also donates to all the major cancer charities and other small ones because many of their volunteers are already active in other fund raising endeavours.

Cupcakes 4 Kids With Cancer ambassador, Bianca Lai, was also at Cresta with her hand crafted cupcake donation. The sixteen year old has been diagnosed with her third cancer but through the charity, her family is able to take care of not only her medical but also her social needs.

“There’s nothing like Cupcakes 4 Kids With Cancer,” said her mother Carla Lai, “they will do everything to assist the children with medical and academic fees. Bianca does dramatic art now and that’s bringing back my little confident performer.”
