Auckland Park Preparatory School celebrated its 92nd birthday with an open day on 4 October at the school’s Twickenham Avenue premises.

The school celebrates its birthday with a flower festival every year. Each grade is tasked with developing a display around a specific theme.

The Grade 0s put together informal flower arrangements in tin vases while the Grade 7s designed a dinner for two.

Grade 6s' Country Picnic and Grade 5s' Tutti Frutti themes are hits every year.

“The young ladies get really creative and you can see each girl’s personality in her display,” Kate Becker, Auckland Park Preparatory’s marketing director, said.

The day ended with an assembly of the entire school body and a special cake cutting. The huge cake is made from the school’s traditional recipe and is baked by a school mum every year.

The oldest and the youngest girls enrolled at the school light the candles on the cake and everyone eat a piece.
