Northcliff’s advocate Carel van Heerden scooped up some medals at the World Masters Games (WMG) for people 35-years of age and older.

Van Heerden took part in the breaststroke swimming events in the under-65 group, where he took home a silver and a bronze medal for the 100m and 50m races respectively.

He also achieved fourth position in the 200m race.

The games take place every four years and were held in Torino in Italy, where 25 000 athletes from 70 countries converged.

After 10 years of training and competing in international events six times already, van Heerden finally has one less item on his bucket list, he said.
