Christmas treat for Esperanza Primary

NEWLANDS - The Open Door Crisis Centre throws a Christmas party for Esperanza Primary School pupils.

The Open Door Crisis Care Centre hosted a Christmas party for Esperanza Primary School pupils in Newlands on 23 November.

The Kwa-Zulu Natal based centre for abused women and children recently opened its Johannesburg offices and the event marked the launch.

“We, the fundraising department of the centre started a new project on 1 September and aim to establish a place of safety in two years to help street mothers and children,” Magda Campher, events co-ordinator of Open Door Crisis Care Centre said.

Vice chairman of the school’s governing body Bram Labuschagne explained the demographics and essence of Esperanza.

“This is one of the schools in the area that cater for the less fortunate children who also need education. Some of them can afford to pay school fees but others are subsidised,” Labuschagne said.

The Christmas party was the first event of its kind organised by the Johannesburg branch of the centre and Campher revealed that an Easter event is in the pipeline.

“The fundraising department of the Open Door Crisis Care Centre wants to give a big thank you to all our clients who helped with presents, sweets, entertainment and other donations,” said a grateful Campher.

It was a cheerful event for the children as they enjoyed treats, face painting and the jumping castles.
