Melville lit up on 7 December with the annual Christmas Fête.
Residents and visitors alike enjoyed a beautiful day out that featured something for everyone; stunning wares on sale, food specials, carolling, and all the festivities associated with Christmas but with that unique Melville twist.
The streets were abuzz with activity, especially as there was lots of international media in the country for Madiba’s farewell. By the end of the day one could hardly find space to sign their message on the banner dedicated to the former President.
The little ones were especially excited to see Tata Christmas tuk-tuking from spot to spot bearing gifts and photo opportunities. Not to be forgotten, the more tradition Father Christmas welcomed young and old to tell him their wishes and take a photo with him beneath his tree at Clyde’s on 4th.
Many of the shops and restaurants vied for the best festive window display award; Sophiatown Lounge had an African inspired display, Reminiscence brought the vintage flair but it was Fro Music Lounge who came out as the winner with their charming angels in afros display.
As the evening wound down, vendors packed up but the fun didn’t end as Melville’s restaurants welcomed patrons to enjoy the Christmas specials.
