Stars shine at Naledi
JOBURG - Vinette Ebrahim scoops award for best performance in a leading role.
The 11th annual Naledi Theatre Awards took place on 17 March at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City.
Included in the panel of judges was actor, writer and teacher Renos Spanoudes, who teaches maths, drama and English at King David High School in Victory Park. Mies Julie, an adaptation of the 1888 Swedish story Miss Julie, walked away as the big winner of the night winning best production.
The play’s director Yael Farber was awarded best director while lead male actor Bongani Mantsai also walked away with the best lead male actor award.
Best female actor in a leading role went to Hurst Hill resident Vinette Ebrahim for her performance in My Name/Naam is Ellen Pakkies.
The production is based on the true story of Ellen Pakkies, who killed her tik-addicted son in March 2011. Ebrahim is best known for her role as Charmaine Meintjies in Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan.
