Evolver One evolve with fourth studio album

Sophiatown resident Tulsa Pittaway is the owner of wrought iron specialists, Classic Iron but his calling has kept him as drummer for independent adult contemporary rock group Evolver One.

Evolver One is set to release their fourth studio album What If later this year, an album which Pittaway says will show the growth of the band which he joined in 2007.

“You never want to put the same sound out over and over as an artist,” said Pittaway when asked how What If differs from previous releases.

“You always want to develop your craft, but that only comes with experience. So there’s a natural progression from our other albums to this one.”

What If centres on the tragic love story such as the classical tale of Romeo and Juliet, keyboard player Sean Murphy explained.

“What If is themed on the age-old love question that can never be answered. We don’t play music for ourselves, we make music for people out there and this album has lots of songs on the topic of tragic love that will connect with many different people.”

But there’s still a lot of work to be done outside the creative realm, especially for a group such as Evolver One who have turned down record deals to remain independent.

“What’s great for artists nowadays is that, with the internet, the path to the market has changed and we’ve taken back the power. In the past you had to go through a record label but now we can go directly to the buyer,” added Murphy.

“And the industry cannot do the groundwork for you, you have to create the demand yourself.”

Evolver One’s album will be available at 59 online music stores including Itunes, Spotify and Amazon.
