A big thank you for a huge favour

HURSTHILL - Greymont residents show city power employees some love with a certificate of appreciation.

HURSTHILL – Besides the odd snotty comment about having been able to keep the lights on during most of the winter, employees of City Power receive very little acknowledgement from the consumers they serve.

The community of Greymont, respresented by the Greymont Residents Forum, decided to do its bit to change the status quo by saying thank you in a big way – for a huge favour.

“When we first formed the Greymont Residents Forum, the street lighting in Greymont was poor and the suburb badly lit. Today we can proudly say that Greymont has excellent street lighting – which visitors to our suburb always comment on,” the forum’s chairman, Clive Malherbe, explained.

Malherbe was tasked with handing over a certificate to the staff involved in the project at the Hursthill depot, as a token of the community’s appreciation.

“The staff at the Hursthill depot exhibit excellence in service delivery and are a model that all connected to City of Johannesburg should emulate,” Malherbe said during the handover on 9 July.

Depot manager Rakefa Makgoro welcomed the gesture, adding that he was relieved to hear that criminal activities had been reduced as a result. He also commended John McWilliam for his hands-on approach to the project.

“We thank the staff of the Hursthill depot for committing to this huge project, which was both costly and time-intensive,” Malherbe added.
