Caring for the aged

ALBERTVILLE - There aren't many organisations in South Africa raising funds to help senior citizens, but Johannesburg Care for the Aged work tirelessly towards this end.

They all have a heart for the aged, and they’ve been working tirelessly to help senior citizens.

The team at Johannesburg Care for the Aged have been tending to the needs of the elderly for 10 years.

“Where we find a need, we raise money for it,” Vance Jacobson, branch manager at the Joburg branch said on 28 August.

“And we want to take it further to bless more senior citizens and help them out.”

Jacobson and his wife Maria started the Care for the Aged organisation in Durban 14 years ago.

“Maria has always wanted to help, she has such compassion for senior citizens, and we opened up a fundraising organisation to that end,” Jacobson explained.

Offices were established in Albertville in April 2004, and the team of 12 are currently assisting the Highway Aged (a social welfare organisation focused on the special needs of the elderly.) The organisation helps to place pensioners into appropriate homes, hiring medical equipment, placing caregivers into homes and counselling the elderly.

“The pensioners and senior citizens we help out are so thankful,” Jacobson said.

“Unfortunately, there aren’t many people championing their cause, and government doesn’t do much for senior citizens.”

To raise funds, Johannesburg Care for the Aged asks for donations from businesses and the general public.
