Sponsor fast wheels for speedy response

LINDEN – Linden Neighbourhood Watch asks for a faster vehicle to respond to crime faster.

Linden Neighbourhood Watch is struggling to catch criminals in high-speed chases in their 1996 Opel Astra.

If you happen to have a spare Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador or Jaguar XJ220, Linden’s defenders against crime could put it to great use.

But most cars with a fair amount of speed would be better than their current means of transportation.

“This is a good car but it is never fast enough,” said the watch’s chairperson and operations manager Fareed Hoosen.

“Nowadays, criminals drive Audis and [Volkswagen] Golf GTIs. It is impossible to catch them. After four blocks they are gone, disappearing into the sunset.”

Hoosen and the watch’s assistant operations manager John Tyrer are asking residents or businesses in Linden to sponsor them a faster vehicle, “solely for crime prevention”.

They say that the vehicle would allow them to attend to calls and crimes in progress faster, in order to make the suburb safer.
