Dollar Table speaks out on Facebook and then deletes posts

Dollar Table took to Facebook to dismiss claims that they were operating illegally. Shortly after, the posts were deleted.

Following the murder of 29-year-old Thulani Popoyi in Melville, the Dollar Table – the establishment where Popoyi’s hacked body was found – took to Facebook to defend themselves, in response to a post on the bar’s page by a user who referred to Popoyi as a brother.

“We are not operating illegally. We are going for three years now, that will be a pretty lucky break. People have common sense, please exercise it – Finger prints will be found on his body. Maybe the misunderstanding will be clear…We are working as speedily as possible along with private investigator as well.”

The posts were deleted off Dollar Table’s page shortly after.

Earlier this week, the community complained about the place operating without a valid licence.

However, the owner of the building where Dollar Table is situated dismissed the claims.

“When he rented the place from us, we gave the club owner a licence and he had to transfer it to his name,” he said.

“I did a search on the accused and felt he was the right person, what more can I do,” said the owner.

Ward 87 councillor Amanda Forsythe was not shaken by his comments.

“Building owner’s comments are utter rubbish. Property owners can be held liable for illegal activities that happen on their premises and definitely should take responsibility to ensure that any activities on their property are lawful and not prejudicial to the neighbourhood.”

According to the night club’s Facebook page, “People are trying to associate with dollar table. We have competition who knows something was done somewhere and left outside the back gate of the people’s favourite place – I can’t believe certain savages will go to this extend (sic).”
