11 Brixton police officers move up the ranks

Long-serving personnel take on greater responsibility as part of a countrywide service progression.

Eleven Brixton Police Station members have earned promotions following a ranking ceremony held on October 29 to honour officers advancing in the service.

Brixton police spokesperson Jeanette Backhoff said the promotions formed part of a national grade-progression process for members who had served 10 years or longer in a particular rank. The new ranks officially took effect on October 1.

Backhoff said the promotions would not change the officers’ existing duties but would bring greater responsibility and accountability.

She described the newly promoted members as energetic, positive and eager to serve the community, expressing confidence that they would contribute positively to efforts to curb crime affecting the Brixton area.
