Reduce unemployment in youth

NORTHCLIFF – Retail Relate opened a state-of-the-art training facility in Northcliff, where unemployed young people will be trained to take up jobs in the retail industry.

There is hope for South African youth who are fed-up with unemployment.

With unemployment increasing to 25.5 per cent in the second quarter of 2014, local businesses in Northcliff are encouraged to participate in a ground-breaking initiative that will offer young people employment opportunities in the retail and wholesale sector.

Retail Relate, a Skills Education Training Authority (Seta) accredited company opened a state-of-the-art training facility in Northcliff, where unemployed young people will be trained to take up jobs in the retail industry, and where companies can send their staff for further specialist training.

The company’s new training hub in Northcliff selects young people from rural areas, schools and churches for training, while they (trainees) receive a stipend.

Since its inception in 2010, 47 per cent have been employed.

Director of Retail Relate Derick Gideons shared that unemployment is a major issue in the country.

“We are passionate about getting people [off] the streets and into the workplace.”

Head of Retail Relate Leigh Blochlinger said, “We do not want to do this in isolation, so the involvement of local wholesale and retail businesses is essential… Also, previously unemployed graduates will be looking to secure positions in existing businesses.”

Interested individuals can contact Retail Relate to enquire about their desired training.
