Cheynne was an angel
NORTHCLIFF – Norman Russell says Cheynne was a wonderful person and her loss is a painful one.
Following the tragic death of Cheynne Holloway at the Northcliff Ridge on 17 January Norman Russell writes:
Cheynne was a sweet, funny, warm, fun-loving youngster whose passions were music, and earth and animal conservation. No one was allowed to kill a bug or pick a flower when Cheynne was around – she believed passionately in doing no harm. She loved animals and was crazy about watermelon.
Cheynne joined the band, Burning Blue, about 18 months ago, after the band’s former bassist left to pursue his career. As a joke, Cheynne, who was dating the band’s lead guitarist Steve Greenwood, was told that if she could learn to play the bass guitar within a couple of weeks, she could perform with the band in a competition that they were entered in, failing which they would have to withdraw from the competition. Sure enough, within a matter of days, she had taught herself the band’s repertoire, playing upside down on a right-handed bass guitar (she was a lefty), and the band was able to compete in the competition. From that point on she went from strength to strength and was well on her way to becoming a highly accomplished bassist. She was a live-wire on stage and together with her beautiful voice and stunning smile, she captured many hearts.
She was, indeed, an angel. The world could do with more Cheynnes.
