Vuyani dancers to take Metro FM Awards by storm
AUCKLAND PARK – Amid all the glitz, glamour and excitement of the Metro FM Music Awards, residents will also be further entertained as Vuyani dancers get their groove on.
Vuyani Dance Theatre will take pride of place alongside Mzansi’s hottest music acts at the 14th Metro FM Music Awards on 28 February.
The hugely popular annual music awards, which will take place at the Durban International Convention Centre, will feature sizzling performances of the biggest radio hits from the past years.
For the third year running, Vuyani dancers have been invited to participate in this hot-ticket event.
Luyanda Sidiya, the dance company’s artistic director, is choreographing the artists and dancers performing at the awards.
According to Sidiya, the audience and viewers can expect some scorching moves to accompany the songs that defined last year’s musical landscape.
Sidiya was recently named the Standard Bank Young Artist for Dance for 2015, following in the footsteps of Vuyani Dance Theatre founder Gregory Maqoma, who received this prestigious accolade in 2001.
“Taking part in the Metro FM Music Awards is an exciting opportunity for us, considering the immense value of exposing the aesthetic and diversity of our dancers and the Vuyani brand to four million potential viewers. We are thrilled to have this important platform to showcase South African contemporary dance,” he said.
According to Sidiya, since the skilled and versatile Vuyani dancers are equally at home tackling pantsula, ballroom, contemporary, traditional and hip-hop dance, TV viewers are in for a visual spectacle of note.
