GALLERY: Northcliff’s fun day a success
NORTHCLIFF – Overall winners won a day off school to go to Sun City after a fun day at Northcliff High.
Northcliff High School held their annual fun day on Friday 17 April.
“This year’s fun day theme was books. Five genres of books were chosen by the organisers,” said Northcliff High media liaison Lizl Thorne.
According to her, during a special launch assembly last term, there was a draw to determine which grade got which of the genres.
“Once the genres were allocated, the classes in the grade could then choose a relevant book as their particular theme.”
The Grade 8s drew action and adventure books. The books chosen were Tarzan, Lord of the Flies, The Three Musketeers, The Mask of Zorro and The Hunger Games.
The Grade 9s drew fantasy and science fiction, so their themes were Dracula, World War Z, Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, City of Bones and Skulduggery Pleasant.
The Grade 10s drew crime and detective, and their themes were Utopia, Casino Royale, Pretty Little Liars and The Purge.
The Grade 11s drew fairy tales. They came up with The Lorax, Where’s Wally, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Jungle Book and Cat in the Hat.
The Grade 12s drew classics and romance. Their themes were The Godfather, Robin Hood, The Great Gatsby and Phantom of the Opera.
The classes spent the first week of the second term campaigning and advertising their teams. The school buildings were decorated with posters and banners made by the different classes.
“Fun-Day Friday turned out to be a wonderful day with perfect weather. The teams competed against each other in the go-kart race, the inflatables-obstacle course, the tug-of-war and soccer. The day worked on a rotation basis, so all teams were able to participate in all the activities. Throughout the day, we saw teams working together, laughing and having tons of fun.”
Winners in each grade were:
Grade 8: first place Tarzan, second place Lord of the Flies
Grade 9: first place City of Bones, second place Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Grade 10: first place The Purge, second Place Pretty Little Liars
Grade 11: first place Cat in the Hat, second place Where’s Wally
Grade 12: first place The Great Gatsby, second place Phantom of the Opera.
