Sign the petition to clean Emmarentia dam

EMMARENTIA — Make your mark for the petition toward the mantainance of the bank at Emmarentia Dam.

Residents and members of the Emmarentia Residents Association (ERA) have taken up a petition to get the City of Joburg to maintain the east bank of the Emmarentia Dam.

To date 584 people have signed to show their support but the required goal is 1 000 people. Chairperson for the ERA, Wolfgang Phoenix said the bank is currently in a terribly disgusting state and the City of Johannesburg should take responsibility.

“All the infrastructure on the east bank of Emmarentia Dam is in a serious state of disrepair and the environment is badly polluted.”

The entire east bank is under siege from:

• Fishermen who dig up the bank for worms

• Campers and fishermen who pitch tents

• Vehicles illegally parked on the embankment

• Picnickers who light fires on the ground

• Braai ash that is never cleaned

• Inadequate supply of rubbish bins that are serviced too infrequently – particularly before, during and after public holidays and weekends and concerts.
