Joburg SPCA night guard held at gunpoint

JOBURG – Night guard is assaulted during robbery.

A night guard of Joburg SPCA in Reuven was hit on the head, tied to a chair and held at gunpoint during a robbery on the morning of 1 October.

SPCA Public Relations manager Jolene Beyleveld said the five men broke into the premises and stole five computers, a TV screen, an undisclosed amount of money and cell phones.

She said the guard has been sent for medical care and trauma counselling will be provided for affected staff.

“It is appalling and disgusting that despite all our efforts to help communities and their animals such a thing happens,”said Beyleveld.

She said fortunately no animals were harmed and a case of business-breaking and robbery has been opened at the Booysens Police Station.

She said this is the second time in one year the SPCA has been broken into but the first time items were actually stolen.

Beyleveld said some of the items were insured but they will appreciate help from the community.
