Melville United FC receives vests donation
MELVILLE – Melville United FC is one of the beneficiaries of the biggest SA fitness company, Run/Walk for life vests.
Melville United FC received sports vests on 19 November.
The vests were donated to the Melville-based football club by businessman Ray Bienedell,who is the director of the biggest SA fitness company, Run/Walk For Life.
Bienedell, who resides in Wilgeheuwel, handed over the 250 sports vests to Caxton Jhb North West, to be donated to the most deserving communities.
Caxton identified soccer teams, including Melville United as the beneficiaries of the vests.
The first beneficiary was Education Through Soccer Football Academy based in Ruimsig.
“Taking care of the needy is one of our priorities. For us it is not all about making profit, but also making sure our community is fit, healthy and well taken care off,” said Bienedell.
He said for the past years, they have donated to sports centres and their Rand Park branch donates to Kingsway Christian School regularly.
A few years ago, he donated six pairs of running shoes to Caxton Jhb North West readers when they launched the Sharonlea branch.
“All in all, the vests we are donating now are valued at R62 000,” Bienedell said.
He said they were launching a new kit, so they couldn’t just destroy the vests while they know that there are so many children who need the vests.
Bienedell said the vests are meant for active runners within the needy communities for training purposes.
The Melville United coach Decious Rames, who is also a student, appreciated the generous gift for his soccer club players.
“We are so grateful to Northcliff Melville Times for highlighting our soccer kit crisis. Shortly after the story was published over a month ago, Christ Embassy Church also donated a full soccer kit to us,” said Rames.
Rames started the club early this year and his aim was just to keep children off the streets.
“Now it has become something big with parents sending their children and we have started organising soccer matches,” he said.
