Aspiring to excellence and achieving it

BRIXTON – UJ Metropolitan Matriculant, Simran Mehta ends her 12 years of academic perfection with the greatest reward.

It was no surprise when Simran Mehta, a Matriculant at UJ Metropolitan Academy, achieved academic excellence when she passed her final examinations with all As.

The bright and diligent pupil is noted by her doting mother, Bhavna Mehta as having always been an academic pupil. Having been an English teacher for the past 30 years herself, she said that she noticed her daughter had a knack for the books from a very early age.

Simran Mehta says she looks forward to life after high school and making new friends at tertiary level.

Simran, who achieved a 93 per cent average, said that to succeed, she always set a standard which she aimed never to falter on. The indie rock fan added that even though she loved going to school and gaining knowledge, she knew how to balance both work and play.

“I am a big fan of music, which is why I’m learning the piano, and also decided to joined the choir at Temple,” said Mehta, “To stay balanced, I made sure to work when I needed to and also find time to just be with my friends or my family, I wanted to keep the stress very minimal.”

Her very proud father, Bharat Mehta jokingly said that he misses his little baby girl. He further went on to say that he knew his daughter would always succeed in her endeavours because she is a young lady with great values.

“As parents we aim to offer our children all the opportunities that we were never afforded growing up,” said Mehta. “In our time, our parents were very staunch, having a very set mindset on what one should study and the career path that you should chose. I did not want that for my children, I wanted them to find themselves in whatever they wanted to pursue.”

Simran plans to study economic science at Wits which she says meshes together her two favourite subjects, science and mathematics. For this deep and emphatic love for the subjects she gives credit to her teachers who she said made the subjects so interesting by making it easy to understand.
