Pupils of De La Salle Holy Cross College were beguiled by the wise words of struggle veteran Seth Mazibuko.
On 14 June pupils and parents were treated to the emotive words of Mazibuko who is also the chief executive of the June 16, 1976 Foundation.
“The tree of liberation must now be nourished with sweat not blood. We, the youth of 1976, bought freedom with our blood. You, today’s youth, must buy it with your books,” said Mazibuko. His powerful words motivated and humbled everyone present.
He went on to plead that he would love to see three things in the future – a female president, people being judged on their performance and not skin colour, and lastly, a country driven by hard-working leaders with values and ethics.
Grade 11 pupil, Emma Orsmond said that it was an immensely motivational and inspirational evening. “Mr Mazibuko brought one of the most important days in our history to life for all of us by sharing his powerful first-hand experiences and feelings.”
The pupils then ended the motivational evening by watching the movie Sarafina!.
