At the South African Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) awards held recently, Northcliff High School Equestrian team captain, Tanielle Blom, received stellar awards.
Blom was awarded a bronze medal for Prix Caprilli. This is a dressage test that includes jumps. She also got a trophy for being the seventh top overall point scorer in the whole district.
She said that she had been riding for the past six years and started riding because she had always had an interest in horses and the sport. “When a friend of mine began riding she introduced me to Glover Paddocks and I have been riding there ever since,” explained Blom.
Her coach at Glover Paddocks Equestrian Park,Tasmin Maher, said she was thrilled with Blom’s performance. “I am so pleased for Tanielle, she really did a super job,” said an enthused Maher.
Northcliff High was also awarded as the Top Overall Point Scoring School in the 12 – 15 age group.
Blom added that she is an avid animal lover.
“I love being able to be around horses and outdoors. Being an equestrian gives me the opportunity to relax whenever I’m around horses,” she divulged.
She said that the biggest misconception about horses is that most people believe that all horses are scary.
Blom hopes to one day make this sport a marvellous career. Apart from being an equestrian, Blom loves to spend time outdoors and when the weather permits, has fun swimming.
She concluded that she rides at least two to three times a day. “There is nothing I want to achieve through being an equestrian, I simply ride because I love it and the joys it brings to my life.”
