Diversity brings De La Salle together

VICTORY PARK – De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School celebrate Heritage Day boldly.

Heritage Day leaves its marks on De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School.

Teachers and pupils at the school wore traditional clothing on 23 September to celebrate the special day that falls annually on the 24 September.

The pupils all donated R20 to wear their outfits, and the money raised went towards the Christmas Gift Boxes initiative that the college donates to various charities at the end of the year.

Deputy principal, Carren Ilsley said pupils also had a special assembly, where the staff and teachers told them about the various tribal costumes they were wearing, the traditions and customs and the different languages everyone spoke.

“Everyone said the Prayer for Peace and then sang some traditional songs,” said Ilsely. She added that the Grade 3 pupils also celebrated the day with a boerewors braai.

“We all had such a fun and informative day celebrating so many cultures and diversity of beliefs and traditions together.” She concluded that it was a special learning experience for all of them.
