Novel keepsakes help others

BLACKHEATH – The White Elephant Charity Shop shares its successful growth over the past three months.

The White Elephant Charity Shop, a little charity shop which seems to exemplify how people’s love for novel keepsakes can unwittingly assist others who are in need, grows from strength to strength.
Head of merchandising, Laura de Sousa said the passion for charity work gets into your blood.
“The look of the shop was inspired by the charity shops in Oxfam England.” Sousa added that the main priority of the shop is for customers to enjoy their experience thoroughly so that they feel compelled to come again.
The charity shop became a registered non-profit organisation about a year ago and was officially opened in August.
De Sousa said it takes time to get your name out there, however, social media has played a huge role in the charity shop’s success.

The shop takes any and all donations from people wanting to get rid of things they do not need anymore. “Donations may come in and make you wonder who would want this, but there are also hidden gems those will always capture someone.”
She explained that for a charity to succeed it needs to work transparently and honestly. “We let the customer choose which charity they want to donate to.” De Sousa also added that it is a great outlet to help those who need assistance.
She concluded that that people can send their donations to their charity shop or ask for the goods to be collected at a place convenient to them.
