More than 50 cycling fanatics from Berario and surrounds embraced the idea of creating awareness and introducing children to the sport when they embarked on a 5km cycling campaign.

The event was circulated on Facebook and involved the surrounding schools.
It was dubbed Kiddical Mass, derived from Critical Mass, a cycling event typically held on the last Friday of every month which aims to raise awareness about the viability of bicycles as a form of transport.
The race began at the Berario Recreational Centre and one of the organiser’s, Nigel Laver unpacked the whole idea behind the campaign.

“The initiative came about after [I went] to a [cycling event] called Critical Mass, which happens in Johannesburg on the last Friday of every month in Sandton. I was also [introduced] to another [cycling event] called Kiddical Mass in Parktown. I went there and when I came back to Berario, I realised that the area was a little bit flatter and it lends itself [to something the children can do].”

Laver added that this was the eighth time that they had held the event.
