Young dancers set the dance floor ablaze at the DanceSport Competition in Coronationville

CORONATIONVILLE – Young dancers show off their talents at the recent dance competition.

The dance competition took place at Coronationville Recreation Centre on 22 April.

Sho Nshengu, chairperson of DanceSport SA  Gauteng said that this was the first big competition he hosted.

“Today we have registered dances from DanceSport SA as well as unregistered dancers who are participating,” Nshengu said. Adding that this was a way to introduce very young dancers to the different dance forms.

He also said that they had dancers as young as five years old participate in the competition.

“We also had an adult aerobic class that entertained us.”

Dimpho Shoba and Delisile Nkambule are pretty in pink on the dance floor.

Nshengu explained that dance is important because it is not only a great form of exercise, but it also is filled with lots of excitement that children levitate towards, which makes it the perfect outlet for them.

“This is also a great way to keep them occupied which keeps them away from anything that deters them from their school work and aspects that could disrupt their lives,” he shared.

Operations manager for the Department of Sports and Recreation, Negrita Faulmann said the aim of the department is to promote holistic wellness.

“This is why we would partner with dance as it is lovely to see child development from a young age to become healthy adults promoting wellness,” said Faulmann.
