Mandela Day makeover for the Methodist church in Brixton

BRIXTON – Madiba magic runs through methodist church.

The community’s Methodist church received much-needed attention on 18 July in the form of renovations.

The church, which was built in 1905, is an important landmark in the community of Brixton and is currently one of the oldest active churches in the area.

The much needed renovating at one of Brixton’s oldest churches.

On Mandela Day, Reverend Nomsa Nomqolo, Supreme Tenant Minister of the church said, “Mandela was a Methodist. He understood the teachings of the church. Those teachings being to do no harm, do good and staying connected to love. These teachings made him the man he was.

“The church is therefore replicating the teachings Mandela had by renovating the church. “To renovate the church is to restore the legacy and heritage of the church,” said Reverend Thabiso Mcinga, resident minister of the church.

“It will allow the church to be the light in the community, a community littered with alcohol and drug abuse. The community itself needs a positive impact to come from somewhere and a church that is 112 years old is the perfect place for such.”

The church, which has been in service since it opened its doors over 110 years ago, calls on the community and those that can assist in the building’s renovations.

Donations needed include varnishing liquid, fencing and musical instruments. Such Donations can be forwarded to Mcinga.
