Uber has beefed up security for their driver partners after an unsuspecting Uber driver in East Town near Northcliff experienced a vicious acid attack.

After the incident, Uber stated that they take any situation where drivers’ safety is compromised seriously.
The acid attack on Kgomotso Tiro (34) came after he picked up a customer who later threw acid in his face and made off with his car on 6 August.
Drivers have use of a 24/7 local emergency line. Additionally, Uber has partnered with multiple security services which are dispatched in emergency situations.
Lastly, driver partners can now send their estimated time of arrival with their loved ones for added security.
While Uber has made some changes around their security to prevent future attacks, the police has had a breakthrough in the case and arrested a suspect in connection with the acid attack.
Since the incident, Uber has offered Tiro support, offered his family free Uber rides and referred them to trauma counselling. Other support offered is believed to be financial of which the details Uber said are confidential.
