The first day was filled with big smiles and cheer by learners who bravely embarked on a new journey.
Auckland Park Academy of Excellence (Apax) children were accompanied by their emotional parents who were proud of their children starting school for the first time on 17 January.

Grade 1 A teacher Zeenat Kola said the new children this year were very calm, mature and confident.
“On their first day, they will be getting to know about the school, get to know their classmates and drawing self-portraits,” said Kola. “They’ll also get an opportunity to interact with other learners in the school because we always encourage learners to interact with each other and make other friends.”

Grade 1 Zariya Cajee said she was excited to start her first day at school and had made two friends so far. She added her most favourite activity to do at school was drawing pictures of her family.
The day began on a positive note when learners, teachers and parents were welcomed and wished well for the year ahead.

The school’s senior administrator Fazela Amod said the school welcomed 42 Grade 1 learners.
“The little ones looked quite grand in their new school uniforms and shiny school shoes,” she said.
“The kids were eager to meet new friends, the muns through seemed a little anxious as they bid their little ones tearful goodbyes.
This year Apax will introduce Zulu into the curriculum for the grade 1 to 3 learners in order to embrace and encourage diversity.”
