Buddies schools empowers learners with technology

WESTDENE – Buddies schools aims to empower learners from disadvantaged schools.

Since the previous year, an outreach organisation has been working hard at providing pet owners with basic services to ensure their animals receive the best healthcare.

Animal Welfare founders, Riann Greef and Luwyne Cader, have new plans for the year ahead to extend their organisation through their Buddies4ever initiative and uplift members of the community within the education sector.

Cader said this year they will be launching an organisation called Buddies Schools, which is in connection with Microsoft schools, which provides smart devices used in schools’ teaching methods.

Cader previously worked with schoolchildren from Greenpoint High School in Kimberley, which exposed him to the great need in communities which lack facilities and was inspired to do something about it.

“We select schools to implement the project through training educators at the school on how to use the system. During my education studies, I was looking for new ways of teaching learners and extending my knowledge.

So far, we plan to work with a pilot school and plan on inviting other schools, which are less developed and which are disadvantaged.

Through the pilot we will be able to monitor their progress within six months, which will be easier than in upmarket schools,” said Cader.

He added they currently need riding funds to extend their organisation, upgrade the technology at the schools they work with, such as improving their software, computer screens and keyboards.

“I believe this programme will improve a learner’s ability to learn more, using technology and provide educators with additional skills to teach learners.

We would appreciate the assistance of corporate clients and community members to help us grow our organisation.”
