Saints girls donate strands of their hair for a good cause

LINDEN – A Few Grey Hairs gives women their confidence by finding hair donors and making wigs for them.

The girls from St Stithians College had the exciting experience of donating strands of their hair for a good cause.

A Few Grey Hairs, a hairdressing salon based in Linden, took the initiative on 19 May to encourage the girls to donate their hair to women who need wigs.

Many women experience hair loss due to stress, different types of diseases, during cancer treatment, and menopause.

A Few Grey Hairs helps those women by finding younger girls to donate their hair to be made into wigs, and the Saints girls came out in their numbers in support of this initiative.

All the St. Stithians girls who donated their hair were excited to give a helping hand.

A Few Grey Hairs Salon is also an organisation where Delia and Elizabeth Dashwood work together to raise funds by approaching people and businesses to donate either monetarily or their hair.

The issue of hair loss was made real when some of the women who had received hair were at the event and told the girls their stories.

“Not a lot of people know how much confidence a woman loses when she loses her hair. We are trying to give those woman their confidence back,” said Delia.

The girls were thrilled to be donating their hair and each had about 10g of their hair cut off on the day.
