City calls on residents to participate in the upcoming IDP public meetings

JOBURG – IDP meetings are an essential cornerstone to the City's next budget.

The City of Johannesburg is calling upon residents to participate in the upcoming Integrated Development Plan (IDP) consultation meetings in their regions.

The IDP is the City’s outlined plan and takes into account the needs of residents, whether it be fixing potholes or building more libraries.

It is a long-term development approach that is centred on the decision-making process of the budget and tariffs.

Speaker of Council Vasco da Gama said the City will be holding IDP cluster meetings in all seven regions of the City from the end of October until the beginning of December.

These meetings will give communities an opportunity to engage with the City’s leadership on service delivery issues and get the feedback on infrastructure developments and service delivery plans for their wards.

“It is very important for the residents to attend the IDP consultation meetings in their regions. This is in order to ensure that their voices are heard and that the final budget reflects their needs,” Da Gama said.

“The IDP process is one of the most powerful tools which communities can use to influence the direction they want their municipality to take and to influence the services delivery imperatives which they think must be prioritised by the City. It is also a platform which enables residents an opportunity to hold the executive accountable for their actions or inaction.”

Integrated Development Plan (IDP) meetings will take place across the City of Johannesburg.
