Abbott’s new sheriff

NORTHCLIFF – The principal who looks to make sure everyone improves themselves in all that they do.


The Abbott College Northcliff family is proud to announce that they have a new sheriff at the school.

As of 20 January, Yolande Britz was named the new principal of the high school. Britz, who is no stranger to the Abbotts College brand and culture, is more than excited and determined to achieve in her new role.

With very little time to get the show on the road, Britz met with the parents, guardians and learners of Abbotts College and was pleased to do so. “This year we want every student to know that they are valued and that they hold tremendous worth. We believe in fresh starts and new beginnings. The staff understands the crucial role that failure and mistakes play in the ongoing process of improvement.”

Britz pledged their efforts towards achieving great success for the school, its learners and staff.

Britz comes to Abbotts College with years of experience and training. Prior to her promotion, she was at Abbotts College Johannesburg South for 10 years having started in 2010 as a grade head. In 2014 she was promoted to deputy principal of the school. Before Britz joined Abbotts she had worked as a teacher in South African schools and the United Kingdom. Britz is also the holder of a Bachelor of Commerce, Higher Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Education Honours in Education Management, Law and Policy. This along with having completed various ADvTech training courses should ensure everyone that she is well qualified for the job.

Britz shared what their focus for 2020 is as a school. “Our motto for the year is an improvement. Not only the improvement from 30 per cent to 80 but from 30 to 40 and 40 to 50 and so on. We want to see everyone make an improvement.”

The goal isn’t only limited to academics, Britz vowed to use this philosophy in all of Abbotts Colleges plans. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that all students are learning at high levels because they are respected, challenged, supported and cared for. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and improvement for all students.”
