Play director shares details on what to expect from King David‘s major production for the year.
It’s been weeks of planning and preparing for King David Victory Park as they have been hard at work putting their 2020 musical, Little Shop of Horrors together.
Director of the play Renos Spanoudes is pleased with the progress made by all involved. One of the aims of this production was to ensure the participation of as many learners as possible. “What we believe here at King David Victory Park is we open our productions for auditions and every single person who auditions is guaranteed to get something in the production.”

The production has two casts to ensure all are involved and to showcase the range of musical theatre talent at the school.
Spanoudes is looking forward to seeing how one if his favourite scenes play out once the show goes live. He shared details of the act saying, “The part where Audrey can’t sleep, she knows something is desperately wrong with Seymour so she comes down from her apartment to go check on him. When she gets to the store in the middle of the night Seymour is not there, he has gone out to get more blood for the plant.”

When asked why this is worrying, Spanoudes said he would be spoiling the show and would rather encourage people to come watch it to see for themselves.
The school is inviting the public to the production not only because you will get to experience the wonderful, dedicated, focused and talented work of all involved but because there are lessons to take from it to.

Spanoudes added, “At the beginning of each performance night, we have students performing along the entranceway to the hall and raising funds for People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa). We have also invited two representatives of Powa on the final night to present them with the funds raised.”
With the lead female of the play, Audrey, being abused by her boyfriend, it gives King David Victory Park the chance to shine light on a nightmare facing South African woman.
