De La Salle Holy Cross College recently announced its leaders for next year at an assembly attended by Grade 11s and 12s whilst the rest of the school joined the assembly virtually.
On the day it was announced Emma Munyembate and Liam Power would be head girl and boy respectively, while their deputies would be Tarryn Urban and Shakiel Sallie.
The school’s deputy head for academics and leadership, Christien de Villers, said the school strives to empower and guide their leaders to lead by the example they set for others. This being one that embodies the school’s ethos of ‘Be first to be of service.’ “They are encouraged to lead with kindness and empathy, irrespective of creed or gender. We are very proud of the team of leaders that has been elected by the college and we wish them success and growth in the year to come.”
Head girl Emma Munyembate said during her reign she would like to inspire younger learners not to be afraid of hard work as, ultimately, it goes a long way. “Show up and be present, as the memories you make, experiences you have and people you meet will positively impact your life.” Adding they should not be afraid to try a new sport or cultural activity, as you may find the passion they were looking for all along. “Have fun and make new friends, be the person that makes others feel included, and most importantly, live the spirit of Ubuntu, I am because you are.”
Her counterpart, head boy Liam Power, said his vision for the coming year is to instil pride and spirit in every learner attending the school. “I will do everything in my power to ensure that everyone feels included and a part of something bigger than themselves. I will strive to create an environment where everyone, regardless of race, religion or gender can speak out without the worry of being bullied or alienated.”
