Covid-19 vaccines ready for over 60s

JOBURG – Senior citizens reminded that although the Covid-19 vaccine is voluntary it will be interrupting transmissions and reducing the morbidity and mortality caused by the virus.

Provincial health department opens the doors for over 60s to get their Covid-19 vaccine jab.

Monday 17 May 2021 marked day one of the national efforts to protect members of the public over the age of 60. The Gauteng Health Department, along with starting the vaccinations across the province, has shared a list of accredited facilities where the next phases of the vaccine rollout will take place. Phase 2of the rollout is aimed at protecting the population against the SARS-Cov-2 virus, by interrupting transmission through achievement of herd immunity and reducing the morbidity and mortality caused by the Covid-19 disease.

The department did remind the public that those interested in the vaccine will first need to register on the Electronic Vaccination Data System. Once registered they will receive a confirmation SMS telling them the details of their Covid-19 vaccination. They also reminded the public that the vaccine itself is voluntary and therefore no one should be forced to take one. The person will then need to arrive at the site with their identity document or passport number, residential address, cell phone number and medical aid number (if applicable).
