Little ones welcome spring while championing a good cause

Northcliff – Little ones from a local school recently celebrated Spring Day and supported a worthy cause at the same time.

KinderKids & Baby Academy celebrated Spring Day on September 3 and supported DKMS Africa (previously known as the Sunflower Fund) at the same time.

DKMS is dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders. They create awareness, recruit blood stem cell donors to provide people with a second chance at life, raise funds to cover donor registration costs, and support the improvement of blood cancer therapies through their own research. They also support patients from day one of their diagnosis, providing family and friends with a positive way to get involved by organising stem cell donor drives that can enhance your donor search, rally community support and provide hope.

DKMS Africa’s annual Sunflower Day campaign will be commemorated on September 17, this year. The Sunflower Day campaign is centred on the sale of Tubes of Hope (Tope). All funds raised go towards helping patients with life-threatening blood cancers and disorders like leukaemia, sickle cell disease and aplastic anaemia to name a few, in need of a life-saving blood stem cell (bone marrow) transplant and to grow our patient support programme to help patients who cannot afford the cost of a transplant. Topes can be purchased at Pick n Pay, selected pharmacies and Zando for R30.

Manager of KinderKids & Baby Academy, Marita Louw said, “It has been an honour to support this initiative over the past years at our nursery school. During the years the beautiful sunflower patterns on the bandanas and this year the topes have been a reminder of how many South Africans struggle with leukaemia and are in desperate need of blood stem cell transplants. We wish to thank our parents for opening their hearts in support of DKMS. We want to encourage our community to buy a Tope and support this heartfelt cause on September 17.”
