Get to know Food Circles 108
MELVILLE – Here is a small introduction to a an organisation with big goals.
Have you heard of Food Circles 108?
It is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 2020 in response to Covid-19 and with it, the escalating food insecurity in South Africa.
The organisation was created by Meville resident, Kate Ballenden and it delivers food parcels to organisations such as the reclaimers African Reclaimers Association (ARO) for the past year and half. All while raising funds privately.
According to Ballenden, Food Circles 108’s mission is to create hunger-resilient communities, through funding projects that facilitate spaces where people are trained and educated around growing their own food, eating their own indigenous foods and distributing and selling their produce.
“Food Circles 108 works with small urban food gardens, school food gardens, and has a focus on supporting organisations with strong structure offering sustainable support, such as clinics, woman shelters, psychological centres, children’s homes and schools,” she concluded.
More is still to come from this new organisation as it works to positively impact society through efforts it hopes will have sustainable rewards for those in need.
