Jordan excels in the Czech Republic

EMMARENTIA – Young canoeist, Jorban Klopper formed part of team of young SA paddlers who did the country proud at the recent Olympic Hopes Canoe Regatta.

Jordan Klopper of Dabulamanzi Canoe Club excelled at the Olympic Hopes Canoe Regatta in the Czech Republic.
Jordan formed part of team South Africa that consisted of 15 young paddlers in U15, U16 and U17 age groups.

The racing took place over three days and involved 1 000m, 500m and 200m sprint formats. This was the first taste of international competition that the team had experienced and it afforded them the opportunity to race against competitors from 35 countries.

Jordan managed a powerful performance in the U15 500m K1 event, finishing second in his heat and he followed this up with placing sixth in the category’s semi-finals. Overall in the 500m sprint heats, he placed 10th out of 45 other paddlers.

In the K1 200m event, he was third in his heat and narrowly missed out on the A final, finishing sixth in the semi-final event. Overall in the 200m heats, Jordan was placed 16th out of 45 competitors.

The positive results ensured that the team returned with a fresh set of goals and targets for next year’s events, as the next generation of flat-water sprint paddlers begin their international careers.
