Tshepo Community Development Initiative’s wish for the community
NORTHCLIFF – The initiative also shares on the year it experienced.
With aspects to celebrate such as having assisted 20 people to get their ID documents or having 30 people complete their rehabilitation programme, Tshepo Community Development Initiative has some celebrating to do.
This initiative works to address social challenges in the direct community within the north-western suburbs of Northcliff, Windsor and surrounds. It supports individuals to break the cycle of poverty as they offer four programmes: youth development, Sizanani programme, job creation and integrated social work.
Along with the success previously mentioned, the organisation also sold about 80 cubic metres of compost to the public as part of its enterprise development programme and their aftercare in Windsor managed to reopen after being closed for extended times during lockdown and remain open.
One of their challenges was due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, which saw its aftercare close its doors for significant periods of time. They did, however, managed to reopen in July and keep this service available to the community.
The organisation’s hero this year was Cresta Shopping Centre as it gave an unexpected donation that coincided with the commemoration of Mandela Day. This was done even though Gauteng was in lockdown, which meant no activities could be held. For them, the idea, that despite lockdown restrictions people still reached out, was very generous and they were so thankful.
Their wish for the festive season is that people would keep supporting small businesses at the Scout Hall in Northcliff which is found on the corner of Pendoring and Weltevreden roads. Along with this they would appreciate a donation of toiletries as these would assist their clients who make use of the organisation’s shower facility.
