Reddford House Northcliff public speakers take to the podium as they share their insight of various topics.

Reddford House Northcliff’s public speakers take centre stage.
The school’s Grade 8 to 12 public speaking teams recently participated in the High School Public Speaking Festival during the course of Term 1. This was the first in-person public speaking event post-Covid-19 and the excitement was said to have been palpable.
For their matrics, it was a bittersweet time as this would be the team’s last participation in the festival. The junior teams had to select a quote from a recognised sporting hero or a significant person under the age of 30.
While the Grade 8s chose Greta Thunberg’s words: “You must take action. You must do the impossible. Because giving up is never an option.” Through thorough research and eloquent speeches, each one was heard touching on the notions of the impossible becoming possible, miracles and goals.
The Grade 9s chose the words of football coach Mike Singletary: “Do you know what my favourite part of the game is? The opportunity to play.” To which they delved into the notion of opportunities and how they are all around us.
Seniors spoke on the topic of ‘normality’, which was a very broad topic, but the teams are said to have used their innovative thinking to present insight beyond its literal interpretation.
Though there was some tough competition, the teams made their school proud.
