Helen Joseph Hospital and community unite for Mandela Day clean-up
Windsor Community Cleaning Association, University of Johannesburg and City Parks help clean up Helen Joseph Hospital.

Helen Joseph Hospital sits on vast grounds which are sometimes unkempt – a problem selfless volunteers tackled for Mandela Day.

Community members from the Windsor Community Cleaning Association, University of Johannesburg and City Parks descended in their numbers to clean up the grounds and spruce up areas within the facility. The theme for the day was, ‘Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are’.

In honour of Mandela Day and the call for 67 minutes of community service, the radiology unit also participated in this year’s activities by addressing one of the priorities of the Gauteng Department of Health, reducing long waiting times.

The unit scanned 67 additional patients in the CT scanner, and a further 67 patients had sonar scans on top of their regularly scheduled and emergency patients.
Among other activities, the Breast Health Foundation painted the Breast Clinic and ward 16 cubicles while the emergency unit assisted with the general clean-up while still caring for patients.
