Maleeha’s new coat of paint shows one non-profit’s vibrancy

The youth were part of an outreach committee that painted a new mural for Marang House.

My name is Maleeha Danka, a Grade 11 learner at Pinnacle College Linden. I’ve been a part of the SRC committee, and deputy head of the Outreach Community for one year, and this year, I’m going into my second.

When I first joined the Outreach Committee of Pinnacle College Linden, I was introduced to Marang House. The word ‘Marang’ means ‘a ray of sun that gives hope’ in Setswana. The two ladies who make this house a home with their phenomenal effort and their unconditional love towards the kids are Salome Parkies and Fikile.

Soon after, I realised that this was not just an ordinary house, but a home that housed 12 amazing kids who are on a journey of battling kidney failure and health conditions, at incredibly young ages. During my December holidays, myself and the rest of the Outreach Community were given the opportunity to showcase Marang House. We were assigned the task of painting a mural on the wall of the building, to show the community and all the people driving past that Marang House is not a regular place.

The colours used in this mural show the true vibrant nature of the women running this home, as well as the kids who are under their care. It is a home to the most wonderful kids, all of whom are brave, strong, and resilient.
