Scrabble to stretch the brain in Roosevelt

Rosepark Scrabble Club members would like nothing more than to have you be part of this great social game.

For over 20 years members of Rosepark Scrabble Club have met socially at Roosevelt Park Recreational Centre to play the game of scrabble. They meet once a week socially and for its 12 members, this is one day of the week they keenly look forward to.

Even though they are a social club every now and then, they will meet with groups much like theirs to play against each other. One of the things that excites Anne Biccard, the clubs leader, is how the game is not only spreading across communities, but various tertiary institutions too.

Most of this particular club’s members also play in serious competitions which are hosted by Scrabble South Africa.

Heidi Basch loves being part of this club because of its social benefits, as she has made friends. In her opinion scrabble is a game one can pick up fairly quickly. She says it gives one the opportunity to really stretch their mind and a chance at being competitive too.

Biccard says through the game she has befriended people with the same interests as her. “It has also given me the opportunity to keep my brain alive. Because when you get older you brain needs that stimulation – you do not pick up on things as you did when you were younger.”
