The freedom to geek out in Linden
This Freedom Day the community of Linden will experience a Geek Gathering that encourages the freedom to be your ultimate geek.
Celebrating its sixth market is the Geek Gathering and come April 27, it’s calling on all newbies to experience all the geek fandom. Geeks, alternative communities, and everyone in between can expect the same, exciting, market with all their favourite vendors plus store owners at Linden’s Garden on 4th on April 27.

Organiser Franco Ferrarese, who says he has been a geek his whole life, thinks it important to have a geek gathering like this as the community is one that is spread across our city and acts as a way to bring people together. The chosen location for this was Linden because of how central it is. “We had a chance to partner with Gotcha Pizzeria, a wonderful restaurant that is tucked away in Garden on 4th. Initially the project started as a way to draw more people into Linden to see what is on offer there.”

In Ferrarese’s opinion, geek culture has lasted as long as it has because there are authors and creators of books, movies, games and characters that can speak to each and everyone one of us, deep down, in our core. “They capture our hearts and imagination and speak to us like no one else has been able to. They understand us and it creates fandoms that endure long after people have grown up.”
He added that these are things they pass on to their children and these things generally lead to openness, acceptance and belonging. He thinks this to be important, especially in today’s day and age where people feel more ostracised simply for the things and people they love. Other than this, it’s all just pretty awesome creatively and sometimes, that’s all the reason you need to have something last.
From the day he hopes people experience a sense of camaraderie, excitement, great shopping, amazing food and drinks and a really cool vibe. There will be a wonderful selection of places to dine too. “We will also have select cocktails, surprises for kids and will definitely include some amazing live performers. We will be expanding so people will have several sections of the market to explore, each with something different and unique, along with all the amazing permanent tenants at Garden on 4th and 65 on 4th.”
